The first 30-day challenge starts 7/01/08!

If you've got any New Year's resolutions, I've got the perfect solution for you: the 30-day challenge. Commit to your resolution in the comments, and we can all act as a support group for each other.

The plan is simple: think of one small habit you want to make or break. It might be eating  green things for lunch, walking 10 minutes a day, clearing your desk before you leave, or whatever you fancy.

Commit to your resolution in the comments, and join a bunch of people who aim to improve their lives, one small step at a time. Being accountable to others makes you more likely to stick with it, and sharing the struggle with others makes it easier to bear.

Remember, the idea behind this is to make the small changes that add up to a big difference, rather than trying to fix everything all at once. If we can make one small change every 30 days, and stick to it, by the end of the year we'll have made substantial changes in our habits and lives.

I'll start: I need to get serious about email-wrangling, so I'm going to commit (publicly!) to emptying my email inbox daily and acting on incoming emails within 48 hours. If I can do that for 30 days, I'll have the habit by then and I can start working on the next thing.

And if I can keep this up, then I'll be superwoman by the end of 2008!

Your life...un-stuffed

Everyone has too much stuff to deal with. So you need some help with it, right? Okay, you'd prefer someone to take it all off your hands and give you strawberries and champagne and foot massage, but you'll settle for help.

So you may be interested to hear that I'll be delivering a short series of workshops on this theme on the following dates:

Sunday 4th November 8 am - 12 noon

Thursday 8th November 7.15 am - 8.30 am

Thursday 15th November 7.15 am - 8.30 am

National Organising Week is NOW!

Monday 3rd September to Sunday 9th September is National Organising Week (NOW). So you can honestly say that NOW is the time to get organised.

The Adelaide chapter of AAPO (the Australasian Association of Professional Organisers) is marking the week in two ways: we'll be running a competition, and we'll be running a set of four free seminars/workshops.

The seminars will be held at Burnside Community Centre in the Ballroom from 3 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday 5th of September. Workshops topics will be:

3 - 3.30 Organising your kitchen
4 - 4.30 Organising your wardrobe
5 - 5.30 Home and office paperwork
6 - 6.30 Time and task management

After each seminar/workshop, there'll be a 15-minute "Ask the Organisers" session, where you can grill us to your heart's content. There will also be various storage and stationery suppliers there showing off their wares and their services, and providing some props for our presentations.

To book, either:
email
info@aapo.org.au with “NOW workshops” in the subject line, and including your name, contact details, and postcode, and listing the workshops you would like to register for,
Or:
mail the information listed above to PO Box 1191, Kensington Gardens, SA 5068

The competition runs from August 15th and closes on September 8th, so there's not much time to enter. The winner will receive five hours of organising from all four Adelaide organisers, which makes a total of twenty hours of work, plus a voucher for $500 from Ikea. I'd enter myself, except the other organisers might recognise me...

Entries should include the following information:

1. Name and contact details of nominee

2. Reasons why the nominee needs help with organising

3. Reasons why the nominee deserves a free organising session

4. Full name and contact details of nominator

Entries may be submitted via email to info@aapo.org.au with

"Adelaide NOW Competition" as the subject heading.

Entries can also be submitted via mail to:

Qetesh was one of the world's cutest cats, a happy Abyssinian who was shamelessly spoilt.

Along with her sibling Luschka, a Burmese, they brightened up my life for nearly 13 years.

Lushy's still around, and being as snuggly as ever, but Qet has sadly shuffled off this mortal coil.

I could wiffle on about how they've taught me about love, trust, and responsibility, but I shan't.

I shall just say, Thank FSM for cats.
